The Investigation Command is comprised of eight (8) units. The Violent Crimes Unit and The Felony Crimes Unit are each supervised by a Sergeant. Members of C.I. D. are assigned to several area task forces such as the Child Abuse Task Force, ATF Violent Crime Task Force, and Baldwin County Homicide Task Force. Polygraph examinations are also conducted at this office. Investigators work with various county and state agencies such as the District Attorney's Office, Department of Human Resources, Department of Forensic Sciences, and Federal Agencies to thoroughly investigate crimes.
The Narcotics Division is the lead agency of the Baldwin County Drug Task Force which is comprised of narcotics officers from numerous agencies assigned on a full-time basis. Both the Narcotics Division and the Drug Task Force have been very successful in drug enforcement in Baldwin County, Alabama.
The Narcotics Divison's responsibilities involve the purchase of illegal drugs by use of undercover officers or informants, investigation of drug related complaints and crimes, working jointly with state and federal agencies, the execution of search warrants, and the arrests of persons involved in illegal drug activity. The Baldwin County Sheriff's Investigations Division also is a participating agency in the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force. The Sheriff's Office has a deputy assigned full time to the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. The purpose of this Task Force is to combine the efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to locate and apprehend the most dangerous fugitives and assist in high profile investigations.
